The vice-president of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Ghalla Bahiya, underlined, Thursday before the members of the UN Committee of 24 (C24), the growing international support to the legitimacy of Morocco's rights over its southern provinces and to the autonomy plan as the only solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
 

Bahiya intervened as the democratically elected representative of the populations of the Moroccan Sahara, at the C24 Pacific region seminar being held in Bali, Indonesia, May 24-26.

Reacting to press reports about the activation by the VFS-Global company of its temporary branch in the city of Tindouf, the Italian embassy in Rabat said that this decision aims to improve and simplify the filing of visa applications, noting that "pop-up" centers will be opened in the coming weeks in other cities in Algeria.

In a statement, Italy's diplomatic representation in Rabat said that this administrative initiative is not related to the Italian position on the Sahara issue.

Algeria argues that its position of "support for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people" is the inalienable principle of a country that considers itself an observer in the regional dispute over Western Sahara. However,    declassified CIA documents clearly show that this support is not expressed for the interests of the Polisario.

The president of the party Les Républicains (LR), Eric Ciotti, and Rachida Dati, member of the party and emblematic figure of the French right, expressed the clear position of their formation recognizing the sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara.

They also stressed, in an interview published Friday by the weekly "Tel Quel", that this major French political party "adheres to the autonomy solution" proposed by the Kingdom.

Interference in the internal affairs of Spain is considered a constant in Algerian policy. Algeria's attempts to destabilize Spain date back many years.

The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, does not hesitate to urge Algeria to stop "its interference in the internal affairs" of his country. The latest call came on Sunday, April 23, in an interview he gave to the daily El Espanol.

Titled "Moroccan Women Detained in Polisario Camps, Prisons: Serious Human Rights Violations," the study conducted by Malika Bensahra and Fatima Amrani at the University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah in Fez sheds light on barbaric practices of the Polisario. The latter deliberately used kidnapping, followed by rape, to increase the captive population in the Tindouf camps.

History has already documented how the Tindouf camps were established. The Algerian army entered the Saharan provinces at the time of decolonization and the evacuation of Spanish troops, and led thousands of people who were settled in camps in Tindouf to create the myth of refugees who were brainwashed by Algeria.

Last Wednesday in New York, the UN Security Council held closed-door consultations on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, as part of the regular briefings provided for in resolution 2654, adopted by the Council on October 27 last year.

The politico-economic harmony between Spain and Morocco has been more than perfect since the resumption of relations between the two countries. This has been further consolidated with the holding of the 12th High-Level Meeting (HLM) in Rabat in early February, during which agreements were reached in various areas.

Despite the efforts of some to generate tensions for the purpose of destabilizing both kingdoms, politically, Morocco and Spain have found their way through a new discourse of complementarity where they no longer fall into the trap of realpolitik.
