Morocco becomes ‘Sectoral Dialogue Partner’ of ASEAN _Morocco has secured the distinction of being the first in Africa to attain this status_ In the ever-shifting landscape of international diplomacy, a notable contrast has emerged between two North African nations: Morocco and Algeria. While Algeria grapples with the repercussions of its recent rejection by the BRICS, Morocco has scored a significant diplomatic victory by officially attaining the status of an ASEAN sectoral dialogue partner.

Algeria, BRICS and Western Sahara

On August 24, 2023, the BRICS, the organization of emerging countries consisting of China, India, Brazil, Russia, and South Africa, announced the admission of 6 new members: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Iran. However, Algeria, which had also applied for membership, was rejected.

Algeria argues that its position of "support for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people" is the inalienable principle of a country that considers itself an observer in the regional dispute over Western Sahara. Interference in the internal affairs of Spain is considered a constant in Algerian policy. Algeria's attempts to destabilize Spain date back many years.

The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, does not hesitate to urge Algeria to stop "its interference in the internal affairs" of his country. The latest call came on Sunday, April 23, in an interview he gave to the daily El Espanol.

How France territorially amputated Morocco in favor of Algeria

Algeria created dispute over Sahara to quench its geopolitical whims

Algeria has created from scratch the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, sponsored the creation of the polisario and provided it with political, diplomatic, financial and military support, to fulfil its geopolitical whims.

The remarks were made by French Lawyer Jerôme Besnard at a conference on Moroccan and Serbian experiences in the defense of territorial integrity and national sovereignty, held in Belgrade on Tuesday.

The resolution of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara is only a matter of time, provided that the main party to this regional dispute, namely Algeria, participates in good faith in the UN roundtable process, in accordance with Security Council resolution 2602.

"Polisario", a "real time bomb" in Algeria.

"The separatist movement of the 'Polisario' is a 'real time bomb' for Algeria," said political analyst Mustapha Tossa estimating that for decades, this 'losing cause' has absorbed a large part of the Algerian economy.
