As a former deputy Minister, I am highly committed to the cause of women’s empowerment and gender equality in Africa, as well as the unity of our Continent. I can testify with pride, that women in the Moroccan Sahara are fully empowered and enjoy all the freedoms provided for by the Moroccan Constitution and international human rights law.

Titled "Moroccan Women Detained in Polisario Camps, Prisons: Serious Human Rights Violations," the study conducted by Malika Bensahra and Fatima Amrani at the University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah in Fez sheds light on barbaric practices of the Polisario. The latter deliberately used kidnapping, followed by rape, to increase the captive population in the Tindouf camps.

History has already documented how the Tindouf camps were established. The Algerian army entered the Saharan provinces at the time of decolonization and the evacuation of Spanish troops, and led thousands of people who were settled in camps in Tindouf to create the myth of refugees who were brainwashed by Algeria.

The mistreatment of sub-Saharan and Syrian migrants by Algerian authorities and racism against blacks in Algeria are persistent issues that continue to raise serious concerns. Numerous reports have revealed that migrants and blacks in Algeria are victims of discrimination, intimidation, physical violence, theft, and other forms of mistreatment by the authorities.
