A Finnish MP lauds the benefits of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan for security in North Africa

The Chairman of the Christian Democratic parliamentary group at the Finnish Parliament has argued that the Autonomy Plan presents a “good opportunity for peace, stability and security in North Africa” during a plenary debate of the Finnish Parliament held on the 10th of June, 2021 on foreign and security policy.

Addressing the Government, the MP also asserted that “many countries, including the United States, have recently expressed their firm support to the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative for the Sahara”.

Recalling that “the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative has been determined to be a serious basis for a realistic, just, and durable solution to the regional dispute”, the Finnish MP asserted that “Finland could find inspiration in its own history, namely the Autonomy Statute of the Aland Islands, to support the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative.

He further added that “Morocco is a strategic partner of the European Union”.
